CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday accused the Centre of treating Tamil Nadu with callosity with regard to the allocation of additional power to cope with the prevailing acute crisis and pointed out that the failure of Central authorities to set right the corridor congestion has been crippling the State from procuring power from other States.“The inaction and non-responsiveness to the repeated requests of Tamil Nadu government for allocating additional power to cope with the prevailing acute power crisis shows the callousness and indifference on the part of the Centre”, the CM said in her letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.“The amazing alacrity shown in superimposing fetters on the rights of the States may also be bestowed on concern for the essential needs of the States and attention to fulfilling them“, she said. The CM also recalled that in her memorandum presented to the PM on June 14 last year, she had requested allocation of an additional 1,000 MW of power to Tamil Nadu for a period of one year only till the Central power utilities which would supply power to the State commence their production. Of this only 100 MW was recently allotted.Observing that major power projects to be executed by Central public sector undertakings such as BHEL, NLC and NTPC were inordinately delayed, Jayalalithaa said, to offset part of the deficit, Tamil Nadu had finalised contracts for receiving a sizeable quantum of power from other States but the non-availability of a Transmission Corridor had deprived the State of receiving it.
