Call to revive spirituality

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting convened by the Hindu Parliament on Wednesday was inaugurated by the head of the Travancore Royal Family, Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, at Rangavilasom Palace here on Wednesday.In his inaugural address, he said, “There is nothing in the world that could not be found in India.’’ He stressed the need for the nation to attain prosperity by transforming visually perceived things into thoughts that are captured by the mind, which are then turned into beliefs and which finally attain a discipline that transforms a nation into a great one.He also expressed disappointment at the tendency of Indians to copy western trends which has led to the loss of Indian cultural values.In the presidential address, A Harinarayanan, Spiritual Committee secretary of Hindu Parliament, said, ‘’it’s high time a second spiritual revolution took place in Kerala.Temples are to be traeated with more solemnity.They not only have a role in Indian spirituality, but have diverse roles in nature, environment and in maintaining climate equilibrium also,” he emphasised.While delivering the keynote address on the topic ‘Kerala bereft of its spirituality’, Sadguru Rishidev Narendraji said that there have been shortcomings in the way customs and rituals have been followed in the state which has resulted in the decline of spirituality.“As Hindu religion is considered a ‘dharma’, a Hindu is to be considered synonymous of man.By dividing gods in various names, people have created various cults in each.A binding force to stand united for a common cause has therefore been absent among Hindus,” he added.V C Rajagopal spoke on the various projects planned by the Hindu Parliament.The meeting was followed by a discussion on various guidelines of spirituality led by several spiritual leaders and saints.
