“The co-operative sector should be freed from the clutches of partisan politics to enable its unhindered growth,” said Union Minister of State for Food K V Thomas here on Sunday.
Inaugurating the valedictory session of the two-day 50th anniversary celebrations of the Cochin Co-operative Society Ltd No.E 100 at the T D High School auditorium, the Minister said that the change of governments should not be allowed to come in the way of the effective functioning of the co-operative institutions.
Five founder leaders of the society, V Sreenivasa Pai, V Krishna Naik, R Krishna Mallya, K Ranganatha Bhat and Ramnath S Pai, were honoured with ‘ponnada’ and mementos on the occasion. Celebrations committee general convener N Purandaradasa Pai, T Y Yousef and B Hamza spoke. Assistant Commissioner of Police M Binoy gave away the prizes to the winners of the various competitions conducted by the society for the students. The seminar on co-operative ventures organised during the morning session was presided over by Dominic Presentation MLA. Justice M Ramachandran inaugurated the seminar. Co-operative Society Ltd No.E 100 president K Babu, Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital vice-president Ajay Tharayil, Councillor Shyamala S Prabu and Cooperative Assistant Registrar P D Saseendranath spoke.
The two-day celebrations of the society, which was established in 1962, were inaugurated on Saturday by Mayor Tony Chammany. At the seminar organised on the occasion, co-operative management consultant
C P R Babu delivered the keynote address on the theme of co-operative institutions and the contradictions in the co-operative laws.
