The accused, identified as Sagar, is believed to be the member of an interstate criminal gang led by Sunder Bhati.

New Delhi: A 24-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly firing at a transgender after she resisted sexual assault by the accused and a second man who was present in the car.

The two men, who had offered the survivor a ride in their car from Trilokpuri to the Barapullah road on Sunday morning, attempted to assault the survivor after realising that she is a transgender.

After she resisted their attempts, the two men allegedly shot at the 21-year-old and threw her out of the moving car.

The victim was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre by some passerby and a case was registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station.

“CCTV footage was checked and we obtained details of the car, which was a taxi. The suspects had moved towards Moolchand Hospital. Following a tip-off that the car would arrive near K-Block at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg on Monday, a trap was laid,” Hindustan Times quoted Deputy commissioner of police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal as saying.

Sagar is believed to be a member of an interstate criminal gang led by Sunder Bhati, the police said.
