Mumbai: Congress leader and former Union Minister Buta Singh's son Sarabjot alias Sweety Singh who was arrested for reportedly being a part of bribery network claims he's being framed.
The CBI though insists that the arrest comes on the basis of extensive research and questioning and also maintains that investigations are still on.
Joint Director of CBI, Rishi Raj Singh said, "He was arrested after several hours of questioning and also as a result of simultaneous investigation ,which was conducted at Delhi and other places."
Incidentally, Buta Singh is the Chairman of National Commmission of Scheduled Castes.
Nashik-based civic works contractor Ram Patil had alleged that the bribe was being asked to get him cleared of charges of Dalit atrocities.
The builder also alleges that the bribe amount was pressed for by Buta Singh himself.
That has put Buta Singh directly in the line of fire.
CNN-IBN had reported last week that Ram Patil, the builder was absconding as he had been booked under the Dalit atrocities act after Buta Singh himself had gone to Nasik to inquire into allegations of Patil cheating Dalit class four workers.
Patil was allegedly seeking withdrawal of a case under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, filed against him by a group of local conservancy workers employed by him.
Patil had raised money on the names of people from the downtrodden section by allegedy taking their signatures on blank papers to the tune of 10 crore rupees.
He was a former member of the NCP. The NCP has distanced itseld from the scam. Buta Singh's son says he was framed
"These charges are irrelevant. I am being framed. God knows who is behind this," said Buta Singh's son.
