New Delhi: A lady, along with some journalists, was beaten up during a wedding ceremony in Varanasi on Monday.
Six journalists including Sahara Samay correspondent, were manhandled by Shamsher Singh a BSP MLA from Ambedkar Nagar. Three of them are said to be in a critical condition.
Singh beat up the journalists when they landed up in a marriage ceremony where he was getting his son married for the second time.
The lady had gone there to stop the wedding proceedings, claiming the groom was her husband and therefore could not marry again.
The journalists were allegedly beaten up with the butt of a rifle, and bottles of alcohol were forcibly inserted into their mouth. The MLA also snatched cameras of media persons.
Sahara Samay correspondent Nimesh Rai received serious injuries in his head and was rushed to hospital.
Later, the police on complaint of BSP MLA also manhandled the scribes.
