HYDERABAD: The state government's Rachabanda programme held at Moula Ali on Sunday seems to have lost its sheen. Not only did it see fewer people turning up but the spirit of Rachabanda was also toned down.
Those who attended the programme still kept their hopes up. Dayanand Swami, a salesman had come to apply for his ration card a second time. "I had applied for my ration card during the earlier Rachabanda as well. It has been three months and I still didn't get it. Officials assured I would get it within 10 days," said Dayanand. For many more, it was a Sunday outing. Sathyamurthy a retired railway employee who lives in Chittoor said, "My relatives stay right opposite the venue. When I go back, my neighbours will ask me whether I attended the Rachabanda, so I need to have something to report to them," he said. 723 pensions, 17,328 ration coupons, `1.64 crore bank loans to 106 SHGs along with `6.97 lakh worth Pavala Vaddi loans to 205 groups were given on the occasion. A few complained that instead of the `1perkg rice, they preferred a slash in prices of other essentials. The chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy assured the government would gradually introduce a scheme to provide few other essential commodities at a cheaper price.
