Mumbai: Salman Khan seems to be in for more trouble. Ravindra Patil, his bodyguard at the time of the hit-and-run accident that had killed one person and injured four in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002, has reiterated his statement that Salman was driving the car himself and was drunk.
Patil said this on Thursday during the cross-examination and also emphasised that he had advised Salman not to drive the car as he was under the influence of liquor.
However, Dipesh Mehta, Salman's lawyer, said that it is the initial stage of the case and not much should be read into Patil's statement.
He also added that Patil has only reiterated his earlier statement and there are other important witnesses in the case.
Patil, who is the the prime witness in the cine star's hit-and-run case and had been absconding, was arrested by Crime Branch sleuths from Mahabaleshwar on Wednesday and produced before a holiday Court on Thursday which remanded him in police custody for a day.
He had gone missing while his cross-examination during the trials was in progress.
Ravindra Patil's brother, too, had lodged a complaint with the police stating that the cine star's bodyguard had gone missing.
Since Ravindra Patil failed to appear before the court for deposition, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him.
