BANGALORE: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) may consider installing Defibrillators, medical devices to tackle sudden cardiac arrests, at the metro stations in the city. On the occasion of World Heart Day, BMRCL was gifted a ‘Powerheart- Automated External Defibrillator (AED)’ which acts as a first-aid device to a person suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest. The device has been manufactured by Opto Circuits, a company dealing with medical equipment.“Emergency medical personnel may not be available at a crowded station or in moving trains, making accessible AEDs indispensable to any public transport,” said Vinod Ramnani, Opto Circuits. Defibrillators come with disposable ECG signal pads that assess the heart condition of the patient and suggest the next course of action. Completely automated, these devices instruct lay persons to immediately tackle emergency cases of sudden cardiac arrest before the patient can be admitted to the hospital for proper care. They are essentially emergency first aid devices.“We may install one defibrillator at the M.G.Road station. If it works, then we will decide on installing more devices,”said Director (Projects & Planning) of BMRCL B S Sudhir Chandra . He believes that safety in the metro is enhanced by such health devices.
