THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The BJP is launching a series of meetings at the Assembly constituency level to review the party’s performance in the Assembly election. The decision was taken at a meeting of the BJP office-bearers held on Saturday.BJP state president V Muraleedharan told a media briefing that the first- phase, which would look at the constituencies, where the BJP had harboured its highest expectations, would be completed by June 20. The party’s performance in all 140 constituencies will be reviewed, he said. The party’s chances in two places, Nemom and Thiruvananthapuram, were dashed owing to the understanding between the Congress and the CPM. This understanding had led to the LDF win in Nemom and the UDF victory in Thiruvananthapuram, he said.In fact, the UDF win in the state was more the result of the people’s appreciation of V S Achuthanandan’s one-man fight against the official faction of the CPM rather than an approval for the UDF, the BJP meeting held to review poll results and chart future strategies has concluded. “People approved of VS’s one-man fight against the official CPM party leadership,” he said. In sharing the portfolios among ministers, the UDF had favoured the Muslim League, Muraleedharan said. Although Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister, P K Kunhalikutty was playing ‘Super Chief Minister,’ he said.Trifurcation flayedThe BJP office-bearers’ meeting has flayed the trifurcation of the Local Self Government Department pointing out that it would derail the decentralisation process. The BJP has urged the government to abandon its decision.“During the previous UDF rule, there was the LSGD and the Rural Development Department, but now it has been trifurcated. This tendency is not good,” BJP president V Muraleedharan said.
