New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babubhai Katara, from Dahod in Gujarat, was on Tuesday expelled from Lok Sabha for "gross indiscipline and misconduct" for attempting to take a woman and a boy abroad on the passports of his wife and son last year.
A Parliamentary Committee, inquiring into the charges, found him guilty of grave misconduct and recommended expulsion.
The Panel, headed by V Kishore Chandra S Deo, submitted its report to the House on Monday.
Moving the resolution, Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee said the MP "has brought disrepute to and maligned the image of entire fraternity of legislators and therefore be expelled from the House."
"The Parliamentarian's conduct was a contempt of the House and eroded the credibility of Parliament," Speaker Somnath Chatterjee observed.
The resolution was unanimously passed by the House by voice vote.
