HYDERABAD: Citizens need not run pillar to post to get birth and death certificates anymore. These documents will soon be available online at Citizen Service Centres and e-Seva centres. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is going to launch the facility from October 2 on a pilot basis, for delivery of digitally signed birth and death certificates through service delivery channels. Hyderabad will be the first city in the state to offer this service. Speaking to Express, Information Technology and Communication secretary Sanjay Jaju said the process will enable citizens to get digitally-signed certificate, which are tamper-proof. Presently, citizens have to apply at the CSCs or e-Seva centres for getting birth or death certificates. The centres then forward the same application to GHMC for obtaining the printed certificate, which passes through various levels for getting signatures of officials. This manual procedure takes anywhere between a week or 10 days to get the certificate. In the new system, citizens can get digitally signed birth and death certificates on the same day, Jaju said.He said a meeting was held two days ago with GHMC officials to work out modalities of implementing the system.
