CHENNAI: A two-wheeler dealer, who sold a two-wheeler to the bank robbery suspects, along with a member of a two-wheeler dealer association identified them at the Government General Hospital on Friday during the magisterial probe.Police sources said dealer Balaji, who runs a shop on Bells Road selling second hand two-wheelers, Chepauk was present along with one Dawood, who was the member of an association of two-wheeler dealers, to identify the bodies of the bank robbery suspects.According to Dawood, two persons approached dealer Balaji to buy a second-hand two-wheeler in January. They then sold it back to him, a few days later. The same two persons had again approached him in February and purchased a two-wheeler, which they wanted to sell back to Balaji on February 22, a day before they were killed in the encounter. “Balaji was suspicious and approached the association. We then asked the two persons to get a clearance certificate from the police. But they did not get back to us after that. Later, we saw the news of the police encounter. So, we approached the police, who brought us here (GGH) to identify the bodies. We don’t know their names,” claimed Dawood.Dawood further claimed that the two persons spoke in Hindi, while another man, who was with them spoke in broken Tamil.Balaji, senior manager, Bank of Baroda, Perungudi, who along with his bank staff members identified the bodies, claimed that they clearly identified the four persons, who robbed their bank in January. “We had been in contact with the police officials since the robbery and we have seen the video footage of one of them. That was how we identified them,” said Balaji after recalling the robbery incident in his bank.Shanmuga Sundaram, senior manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Keelkattalai also identified the bank robbery suspects along with his staff members. Recalling the incident, he claimed the gang members could open the locker as the senior cashier was away for lunch.
