Read on to know what Bhairavi has to say about her show 'Satrangi Sasural', the impact of international shows and a lot more.

She played Kajal Bhai in 'Hum Paanch' and was applauded for years for her efforts. Her roles of a typical Indian bahu also helped her win huge appreciation. Having earned immense respect for her potential as an actor, the endearing Bhairavi Raichura is back on the same screen with a new show 'Satrangi Sasural'. And since she has produced the show, it carries huge importance. Read on to know what Bhairavi has to say about her show 'Satrangi Sasural', the impact of international shows and a lot more.

The pilot episode of your new show 'Satrangi Sasural' will be aired today, how is it different from other shows?

'Satrangi Sasural' holds a special significance for us. The story and the subject of the show are both new and unique. It has been written by Purnendu Shekhar, who has written for popular shows like 'Balika vadhu', 'Saat Phere... Saloni Ka Safar' (2005), 'Astitva Ek Prem Kahani' (2002). As far as the concept of the show is concerned, it is about a young boy Vihaan Vatsal who has seven mothers. And the girl who marries him will have to deal with seven mother-in-laws. So the challenges she will have to combat make the show interesting.

Tell us a little about the cast, we can see some known and new faces in the show...

Yes, the cast is an interesting mix of old and known faces. The experience has been great as I have worked with some in the past and known the rest. So there was a certain comfort level which is important when one is working on an interesting project. In this serial, mothers play a crucial role that's why we wanted to rope in fine actors. Actors like Farida Jalal, Bhavna Balsavar, Resham Tipnis, Sadia Siddiqui, Sonali Sachdeva and Sheetal Thakkar were considered. The lead pair is comparatively new. Mugdha Chaphekar is popular for her show 'Dharti Ka Veer Yodha: Prithviraj Chauhan' and Ravish Desai who plays Vihaan Vatsal made headlines for 'Ek Nanad Ki Khushiyon Ki Chaabi... Meri Bhabhi'.

After playing an unconventional character like Kajal Bhai in 'Hum Paanch', you were seen in several shows which were based on the same family theme. Was this a conscious decision? Or you accepted those offers because you ran out of option as no one was making anything new?

That is not really true. Just that people don't remember all your shows. They just remember the shows that were popular. I think, I have been blessed to get opportunities to take up varied roles. My role in 'Sasural Gendha Phool' was different from what I played in 'Balika Vadhu' and both the roles were different from what I had done in 'Hasratein'.

We have seen a growing demand for American TV shows and Pakistani shows in the recent past. What do you think about the popularity of these sitcoms? For how long can Indian TV shows go on without changing the script?

They are all beautiful serials. I watched 'Zindagi Gulzar Hai' and 'Aunn Zaara' and really liked their concepts. But viewers still watch our serials and so if there is a huge demand, why shouldn't there be a supply too? I think it's an effect of globalization and I don't think we need to fear it. All other countries also have serials which go on forever and people still watch them. Indian shows also have a huge number of viewers in those countries. And if the numbers are not as high as the American shows, that is because of the language barrier. We have also had such projects in India, but it finally comes down to what the audience like, they are the final judge.

If given a chance, would you like to play the popular onscreen character 'Kajal Bhai'?

Yes! Why not? I would love to play 'Kajal Bhai' though I don't think I will be able to look the same. I was 15 when I did that role and it's been ages now. But I would still love to do it if given a chance. But yes, I am completely opposite in my real life. I'm a normal girl.

How has producing a TV show been different form acting in one? Which domain - acting or production - do you like the most?

Both acting and production are two different domains. But I love both the jobs. It's a pack up for actors when the shoot gets over, but that doesn't hold true for a producer. It's very different. As a producer, we have to make sure everything is perfect, and the responsibility is definitely huge. But to put everything together and see your project being viewed by several people is a great feeling. The response to our show has been great and overwhelming. We have received positive reviews about the trailers so I hope everything is going to be great.

What's your reaction?
