Bengaluru CEO Gave 'Clear & Rational Answers' During Mental Health Evaluation, Says Goa Police In Court
This comes a week after Suchana's father filed an application in the court seeking examination of her mental health while claiming that she is suffering from an illness

Goa Police on Tuesday informed a children’s court that Bengaluru-based CEO Suchana Seth, accused of killing her four-year-old son, did not show any case of psychopathology and gave “clear and rational answers” during her mental health assessment.

According to an Indian Express report, the reply filed by the police in the Panaji cited the assessment which said “serial mental status examinations did not reveal any case of psychopathology”. The examination was conducted at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) in Bambolim on February 2.

The reply noted that Seth was rational in her answers during the assessments. She also did not show any sort of suicidal tendencies or death wishes. “Her judgement is intact and no psychotic or pervasive mood symptoms were elicited in responses,” IE quoted the reply.

This comes a week after Suchana’s father claimed that she was suffering from an illness and filed an application in the court seeking a medical evaluation of her mental health.

In his application, he had said that Suchana is not able to make her defence and is “incapable” of putting up her defence due to her mental illness. He said that Suchana is in “denial” of her own illness.

He said that there will be “grave prejudice” in this case as she is neither able to make her defence nor give instructions on account of her sickness. He said that in the “interest of justice”, it would be appropriate to examine her mental health.

Goa Police, in the previous hearing, told the Court that the report of Seth’s medical assessment was awaited.

The Court on Tuesday scheduled the next hearing for February 21 and extended Seth’s judicial custody remand till February 26.

WHAT WAS THE CASE?

The 39-year-old CEO of an AI startup — Mindful AI — was booked on January 9 for allegedly murdering her four-year-old son in North Goa and travelling back to Karnataka with his body in a bag.

She, along with her son, checked into a service apartment at Hotel Sol Banyan Grande in North Goa’s Candolim on January 6.

However, she asked for a checkout on the intervening night of January 7-8 and left for Karnataka via road.

Seth was caught by the police at Aimangala police station in the Chitradurga district based on alert from the Goa Police.

Earlier, it was reportedly learnt that Seth did not want her estranged husband to meet her child, and hence killed him.

Seth and her husband, Venkat Raman, had tied the knot in 2010 and their son was born in 2019. However, due to differences in their marriage the two separated. The divorce proceedings of the couple are currently underway.
