Chandigarh: A consumer forum in the city has ordered a beauty parlour to pay compensation of over Rs 10,000 to a woman who found the salon closed on the day of her wedding although she had paid the booking amount for bridal make-up.
On July 28, 2008, Shivani and her sister Shruti paid an advance to Cleopatra beauty parlour in the city, to do their make-up on the day of Shivani's wedding on November 2, 2008.
Shivani attended two sittings at the salon on October 20 and October 29. However, when she reached the beauty parlour for the final make-up on November 2, she found it closed.
"We reached the parlour at 1530 hrs IST but we were shocked to find its shutters down. We called the manager's number but he did not respond. We tried calling the landline numbers written on the receipt several times but nobody picked the phone," Shivani said on Wednesday.
"We waited for over an hour outside the shop. We were very confused and worried as we had to reach home in time. It was peak marriage season so most of the parlours were already booked. However, after visiting countless places we managed to get the make-up done at some other beauty parlour," she added.
Shivani and Shruti filed separate complaints at the District consumer disputes redressal forum in the city.
During the hearing of the case, counsel for Cleopatra beauty parlour said Shivani and Shruti had not gone to the parlour on Nov 2, 2008 and the shop wasn't closed since it was peak marriage season.
However, the forum, after hearing all the arguments on Tuesday ordered the owners of the beauty parlour to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to the sisters and Rs 1,100 as cost of the litigation proceedings.
The forum also told them to pay Rs 8,430 and Rs 6,430 to Shivani and Shruti respectively. This was the amount they paid at another beauty parlour for the make-up.
