BANGALORE: Home and Transport Minister R Ashok on Sunday expressed his support to the initiatives that sought to produce leaders from relatively minority communities, while inaugurating the Bangalore Study Circle Trust’s new hostel. After inaugurating the five-storey building that will house students belonging to the Naidu community for free of cost along with coaching for competitive exams, the minister said, “This is a significant move by the Trust. It is easy to imitate others by building colleges. But, to help a community produce leaders is real service.” He continued, “After SSLC, no one told me what to study. We often went by trends following decisions made by others. Giving opportunities for students to excel in competitive exams will give them hope to become future leaders of their communities,” and informed state government had increased the allocation of funds for minorities from `60 cr to ` 300 cr. Home Minister R Ashok on Sunday told reporters that investigations into the large-scale scam in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) did not fall under his purview. This was in reply to a question about the mysterious late evening operation where files related to the scam were handed over covertly to the CID on Saturday. “This is not connected to me, nor does it come under me,” Ashok said. And added, “I was not aware that files were handed over late in the evening. I will speak to the officials concerned.”
