BANGALORE: Crumbling away all sources of destruction as the masters of puppets descended unto the Indian soil; we rose from the ashes and dust of a massive metallic mayhem in unison. While the crux of wisdom tore the torrid gaze of treachery; sentinels of hell steadily dimmed the light of a faded prima donna. With consciousness being our only companion; we succumbed to the transcendence of a ritual misery where souls met flames and prudence drifted with vanity. And, when amplified distortion of emphatic beats transformed melody with angst and fear; complexity and intricacy of tones transported every individual to a realm of elemental intensity.Through the nebulous shadows of fortune, fame and insanity; we crawled between spaces, stripped our dignity and sought solitude amidst a whole new dimension of debauchery. With harmonised rhythms and some expressive yet intense guitar riffs; Metallica proved that there was liberty and justice for all in music at Palace Grounds on Sunday. Inner Sanctum (Bangalore), Guillotine (Delhi) and Biffy Clyro (Scotland) who opened for the heavy metal rock band too sparked crazy vibes with their performance. And as hysteria ruled the sanctum of metal; raw and unpolished sounds devoured sanity.Creeping Death, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fuel, Ride the Lightning, Fade to Black, Cyanide, The Memory Remains, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Sad But True, All Nightmare Long, One, Master of Puppets, Blackened, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, Am I Evil?, Battery and Seek and Destroy were the songs Metallica chose to annihilate all senses beyond cognition. Euphoria prevailed amongst stranded souls as the messengers of death and bedlam — James Hetfield(rhythm guitar/lead vocals), Lars Ulrich(drums/percussion), Robert Trujillo(bass/backing vocals) and Kirk Hammett(lead guitar/backing vocals) integrated hysteria with compassion; and joy with agony for more than two and a half hours. As 25,000(estimate) spirits yearned for concurred visions and blazing inferno from the Gods, James Hetfield poignantly expressed, “Oh Bangalore! We have waited thirty long years for this,” and sang with pride Give me fuel, Give me fire; Give me that which I desire… What went down was an inherent collision of waving hands, that preceded disbelief, with breaths of mighty singing.Unleashing the dance of death with a thousand suns; Metallica drove metal fans into frenzy with their dark energy. “The next song is you versus the PA. Let’s see who wins,” roared Metallica front man Hetfield as the band unfolded magic and sheer poetry with Memories Remain, from the album Reload (1997). And, creating Marianne Faithful’s mesmerising vocals on the guitar, Kirk Hammett’s infinitely superior skills definitely deserves a special mention. Noone can create leads like him. Indeed, the sonic boom of his sleek riffs will reverberate on the Indian soil for centuries. While metal heads shed all inhibition and joined Metallica with backing vocals and curious thoughts; echoing the band’s sentiments Hetfield said, “Bangalore, you are beautiful.”As Metallica greeted ardent devotees with Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and Master of Puppets; the crowds wove threads of lyrical ecstasy and submission with great enthusiasm. While shredding the wretched minions of faith to bits, with every ounce of obscurity; the band soared above the death of evolution with Blackened.Capturing pithy yet deliberate emotions of trust and betrayal with unrefined melodies, Nothing Else Matters struck chords of nostalgia and passion with all. Seeking open mindedness from all entities; the spirits of doom sealed intact the bonds of unconditional love. And as strains of melodies and beats lingered in air with desperation; every sentinel aware of his or her existence leaped with joy.Paying tribute to Diamond Head, Metallica’s rendition of Am I Evil? was a ruthless massacre of stability and awareness. Hetfield’s innocent question — Are you ready for something heavy? spurred vigour amongst the crowd like wild fire. And as James graced the stage with his powerful voice and sonorous timbres; Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett invoked colossal feelings of awe and admiration with their insane guitar skills. Also, nurturing creativity with complex and fast paced rhythms, Lars Ulrich’s double bass technique and explosive energy set the stage on fire.Battery and Seek and Destroy were the songs that sealed the deal for thousands of metal worshippers. Said Ulrich before he bid his farewell to India,“Is it just me or do you guys agree that Metallica should come to India more often? Bangalore, Metallica will be back. And we will make it happen.” Riding waves of mercy, Metallica destroyed all barriers and summoned spirits of heaven and hell together with their performance on Sunday.Trapped in the prism of unity and love, individual minds ceased to exist for we all evetually surrendered to the messiahs of metal. Memories of an unsung battle with mind, body and music will remain forever. And as we head home, whilst secretly aspiring for a world devoid of treachery and hypocrisy; vengeance soon gave way to forgiveness for…Trust I seek and I find in youEveryday for us, something newOpen mind for a different viewand Nothing Else Matters...
