Bangalore: Even as police continue to remain clueless on the whereabouts of the ATM attacker and have spread out a dragnet in Anantpur district in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Bangalore Police Commissioner has given some relief to banks on tight security for ATMs.
Bowing to banks' demand that they need at least 45 days to procure additional CCTVs and alarm systems for all their ATM kiosks, the Commissioner of Police Raghavendra Audarkar has said that ATMs will be allowed to function for the next 45 days without these two measures.
However, round-the-clock security guards are a must. But here too, guards are not mandatory for kiosks that are located in places that are already high-security zones or have access restrictions - like malls, IT parks, educational and religious institutions, clubs, bus and railway stations.
Bangalore has already shut more than 1000 ATMs without proper security arrangements on last Sunday.
