Las Vegas: Arjun Atwal's slide continued in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open despite a third-round two-under 69. Atwal is now eight-under for three rounds, but he still dropped to tied 51st, down from 37th.
Atwal once again had trouble in the back nine. Starting on the tenth, he was four-under for the first nine. A birdie on tenth was followed by three in a row from 15th to 17th.
But a bogey on the third was the starting point of his troubles.
He birdied the fourth, but a triple bogey on the sixth set him back in a big way. He did close with a birdie on the sixth and three other pars, but the 69 was still not good enough to push him up.
Nick Watney carded seven-under 64 for a share of the third-round lead. He shares the lead with Kevin Na (66).
Watney, winner of the WGC Cadillac Championships and AT&T National this year, is followed by Robert Garrigus (63) and Kris Banks (66), who are one shot behind at 16-under, while four others were at 15-under.
