The torch will be lit on October 2006 in Doha, the host city for the Games, and will visit every former Asian Games host.

Beijing: The Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) unveiled its torch relay route on Tuesday, which includes all previous hosts, including India.

The torch will be lit at a special ceremony on October 2006 in Doha, the host city for the Games, and will visit every former Asian Games host countries - the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, India, South Korea, Iran, Japan and five Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates and host Doha.

"The eyes of the world will follow the flame through local and international media," DAGOC director general Abdulla Khalid Al Qahtani said.

"And we are proud to showcase the very best of our spirit and culture to the rest of Asia and the world through the Games' torch."

"This is the first step towards the launch of the torch relay that takes place ahead of the Games, while the flame is the primary symbol of the ideals and values of the Games and fair competition," Abdulla said.

"This is a step further to unifying the people and the cultures of Asia through the spirit of the Games, enthusiasm, respect and above all, peace achieved through sportsmanship and brotherhood," he said.

The torch relay will be in Beijing on October 23, 2006 and Guangzhou on October 25, secretary general of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), Gu Yaoming said.

The relay will conclude at the 15th Asian Games opening ceremony in Doha on December 1, 2006.
