Ahead of YSRC honorary president Vijayamma’s Cheneta Deeksha on Monday, tension is building up in the weavers’ town of Sircilla.

Sensing trouble, police officials have made security arrangements on an unprecedented scale to prevent breakdown of law and order in view of the TRSTJAC call for disrupting the programme.

The YSR Congress and the TRS have been on a collision course ever since YSRC candidate Konda Surekha came very close to winning the Parkal Assembly byelection.

Till then, the TRS had not paid much attention to YSRC, but when it proved that it has strength in Telangana, the TRS has begun taking notice.

Against this background, TRS and TJAC have been saying Vijayamma’s programme in support of the weavers in Sircilla was in fact intended to dilute the Telangana movement and that she could organise any protest she wants only after she spells out her party’s stand on Telangana issue

Tension has been building up in other Telangana districts too with police arresting 30 TRS leaders, including party district convenor P Sudarshan Reddy and secretary Bharath Kumar Reddy in Warangal.

TRS MLAs D Vinay Bhaskar, T Rajaiah and M Bhikshapathi swore that they would disrupt Vijayamma’s programme on Monday.

In Nalgonda, the women’s wing of the TRS took out a rally to the Clock Tower centre protesting against Vijayamma’s visit to Sircilla and they later burnt her in effigy.

In Sircilla, after the news spread that miscreants had damaged the statue of YSR at Garjanapalli in Yellareddypet, YSR Cong activists tried to tear TRS flags and flexis.

TRS cadres retaliated and when the situation appeared getting out of control, police moved in and dispersed the two groups.

Karimnagar police, who at one time toyed with the idea of refusing permission to Vijayamma in view of the volatile situation, finally decided to allow her to organise her protest.

The officials rejected the plea of TRS for organising a public meeting the same day.

The people living in the weavers town are apprehensive over possible trouble since the TRS has called a bandh on Monday to protest against Vijayamma’s visit.

As many as 1,500 policemen have been deployed to check trouble.

They comprised two ASPs, seven DSPs, 23 CIs, 64 SIs and 1,200 police constables.

In Sircilla, TRS MLA KT Rama Rao took out a massive rally and took part in a ‘dhoom dham’ programme held in the evening.

He warned Vijayamma against entering Sircilla.

If she does, there will be a repeat of Manukota-type incident, where people sent back YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, opposing his ‘odarpu yatra’ in Mahbubabad in Warangal district in 2010.
