HYDERABAD: The state government has decided to request New Delhi to defer the proposed National Eligibility-cum- Entrance Test (NEET) in the state by a year. The state government took up the matter following opposition from parents, students and cram schools to the Medical Council of India’s (MCI’s) decision to hold a commong national test in 2012 for admission to medical colleges. The state government wants to join NEET from 2013 in tandem with national-level medical PG entrance test.At a review meeting, chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy decided that the Education Act of 1983 had to be amended to facilitate conduct of NEET from 2013. Also, the government feels that the five months time available to students to prepare for the new NEET syllabus was not enough.
