CHENNAI: Bharath University organised an anti-plastic rally to create an awareness on the adverse effects of using plastic. On September 10, approximately 150 NCC Madras Group A cadets from various schools and colleges from Chennai participated in the rally. Col. Sunil Sharma, Group commander, Madras Group ‘A’, NCC, flagged off the rally. The rally that started in Tambaram at 9am, reached the university campus at noon. The cadets carried placards with slogans against the use of plastic. They also distributed pamphlets to the public, stressing on the need to act with social and moral responsibility. The rally came to an end at the university campus with the guests of honour appreciating the work done by the students and presenting them with mementos for participating in the event. The university, which was established under the aegis of the Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust with the aim of imparting higher knowledge in Science and Technology in 1984, has also carried out various other such awareness campaigns. Commenting on the occasion, Dr K P Thooyamani, Vice-Chancellor, Bharath University said, “Students should be sensitised on social problems and should be reminded of their social responsibilities time and again, to nurture them into socially conscious people.”
