The actor, who was later released on bail of Rs 5,000 from DN Nagar police station, is to be produced in Mumbai's Bandra court on Monday.
Shakeel Sheikh, 13, was crossing the road when he was hit by Saif's Land Cruiser near the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan's college at around 1800 hrs IST (5.30GMT) in suburban Andheri.
"It was a crowded street and in the chaos, this boy ran infront of my car. I hit the breaks but eneded up stopping the car over his foot," says Saif who rushed the injured boy to the Arogyanidhi hospital in Juhu immediately.
Sheikh suffered a minor fracture and hospital sources are hopeful of a full recovery in about two weeks. He was discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning.
Scared of a media frenzy, Saif even got himself a medical test to nip possible rumours of drunken driving. "I know there is a lot of media attention when a celebrity is involved. But just because I am considered a privileged member I should not be victimised," he said.
After the accident, Saif himself informed the D N Nagar police station. He was booked for rash and negligent driving and for causing minor injury. D N Nagar Police Station, ACP Awate said, "We have not confiscated the car, we will return it after routine examination."
Khan met the child?s mother on Saturday morning and volunteered to bear the child?s medical expenses. Sheikh's mother Masabi informed that Saif had given Rs 9,000.
