Roam around the city and you can spot branches of Cafe Coffee Day around the corner with people chilling over a cuppa and some gup-shup. But, the recently opened Cafe Coffee Day Lounge promises to take you through a whole new experience of drinking coffee. The art of brewing and drinking coffee is complimented by the right combination of food and a relaxed ambience. So, how is the lounge different from the regular cafes that we frequent? “The idea is for the customers to know how their coffee is being brewed. The entire coffee brewing technique will be performed before the customers to let them know the procedure followed,” said coffee evangelist, Omana Chethan, while she demonstrated the various techniques of brewing at their official launch in the city on Thursday. She further added, “All our staff members are trained to brew coffee in a particular way. We have different training divisions at our regional offices which cater to them.” According to Omana, people these days want to try and experiment with different flavours. “There are 10 coffee brewing methods in the world. Origin and flavour of every type of coffee is different,” she said, adding, “For example the Indian filter coffee has its own aroma and taste Similarly espresso is liked in Italy.” There is another difference between the lounge and the regular cafe --- the colour chnge from red to blue. This change of colour is also for a reason. Ramchander Raman, head, food and beverage, Cafe Coffee Day said, “We are trying to bring globalised trends to India and are making coffee drinking experience much more enjoyable. The colour-change from red for the cafes to turquoise blue for lounge was to make the ambience much more relaxing and soothing.” He further added, “We have a a huge demand for these stores as people are much aware and much exposed these days. They want the best in everything.” Apart from coffee, the Lounge also offers an interactive and an international food menu like Mediterranean, Lebanese, Mexican and Indian cuisine. The menu includes a delightful plate of starters like chicken sheek, chicken nuggets and masala nuggets and full meals like pastas, biryanis and paranthas, which are usually not offered at the other coffee cafes. To finish off your meal on a very enriching note, the lounge also offers desserts like the French cheese cake, seventh heaven. alternative brewing techniquesA range of distinct coffee blends are prepared by special alternative brewing techniques. Mixology, a brewing technique wherein a personalised brew is created by mixing a blend of flavours to suit an individual’s taste, all this possible only through skill, creativity and precise judgement. The alternative brewing techniques include the French Press, Siphon and Pour-over. French Press is ideal for quick preparation at home. The coffee is brewed by placing the coffee and water together, stirring and leaving to brew for a few minutes, then pressing the plunger to trap the coffee grounds at the bottom of the beaker. It creates a colourful coffee with a light-flavour. Siphon is a new rage in coffee making, which is also known as the vacuum coffee method. The origin of this technique is Japanese and in this, coffee is brewed by using two chambers, whereby vapour pressure and vacuum produce coffee which is clean, crisp and rich in flavour when compared to other brews. It is said to boost ones senses. Pour-Over method creates a clear, flavourful coffee with a light concoction.
