MALAPPURAM: As the development of the off campus centre of Aligarh Muslim University in Malappuram is stalled with Ministry of Human Resource Development freezing the powers of AMU Vice-Chancellor, the centre is now waiting for a decision from the Ministry of HRD to find a way out of the deadlock. In order to asses the conditions, Minister of State for HRD, E Ahamed MP, along with Educational Minister P K Abdurabb will visit the centre on Monday, informed the authorities. Out of the Rs. 25 crore announced in the 2010 Union Budget for the primary construction activities, the centre has received only Rs. 10 crore so far, with which it has started the construction of the boundary wall in the 335 acres of land acquired for the campus in Chelamala near Perinthalmanna. However, the Public Works Department which had signed the MoU for constructing the semi-permanent buildings on the campus, needs the remaining amount to be released to start the work. The centre is yet to get Rs. 50 crore announced in the 2011 Budget. The centre is also struggling to pool together enough faculties to run the courses. According to sources, the centre is managing two batches of MBA with just two permanent faculties. “There is acute shortage of faculty in the MBA department, we need at least six more to run the course,” said centre director P Mohammed on Sunday. Though the centre has called for faculty positions, they were unable to hold the interviews since the appointment also needed approval from the VC.
