VELLORE: Hundreds of residents of Periyavarikkam village near Ambur staged a road rokko in knee-deep water demanding the authorities to clear the encroachments found on the supply channels to the water bodies, leading to flooding of hutments following flash floods in a river stream.Ambur region and the nearby Oottal hill catchments area had on Thursday morning received unprecedented heavy rainfall (around 10 cms).The agitators left after assurances from officials that the encroachments would be cleared.After nearly five years, the upper reaches of Palar river near Vaniyambadi was flooded after heavy rainfall. Catchment areas on the TN - AP border hills saw heavy rainfall on Thursday morning. Mannaru, a tributary of Palar, which brings water from the hills in AP was flooded, bringing cheers to upstream farmers.
