ERODE: With the change of governance, the ruling AIADMK men hope that the government will cancel tenders, that were already invited for running IMFL bars throughout the state. The previous AIADMK rule cancelled the process of allowing private parties, mostly politicians, to run IMFL shops and entrusted the work through TASMAC (TN State Marketing Corporation). After the DMK came to power, it indirectly entertained partymen in the name of running bars and eateries in such shops. The partymen got licences for such shops through tender process, held every year in the TASMAC general manager’s office and rented it out.Complaints were filed by opposition parties, especially the AIADMK, in Erode, that the DMK men did not allow them to take part in the tender process and staged agitations. Anyhow, most of the bars in 253 shops were run by the DMK men, said sources. Usually, `20,000 as Demand Draft is to be deposited with the tender form for bar licence in urban shops and `5,000 for rural shops with quoting the bid amount (licence fee for 1 year). As per norms, tenders were put by various bidders in the TASMAC office at Suriampalayam, by February 2011.After scrutinizing the tenders, the shops would be run by successful bidders from May. But, this year, as the model code of conduct was in force between March 1 till May 16, the tenders were not opened. Anticipating this, licences given last year were extended till May 30. “Though one week is elapsed after assumption of the new government, there is no indication of scrutinising the tenders. The officials are also not in a position to clarify,” a top AIADMK functionary here told Express. The government cancelled the uniform education system and books printed for it. So, we believe it would also invite tenders afresh. Probably, an announcement is expected in one or two days, he added. AIADMK men said that the officials are also in a mood to invite fresh tenders.
