Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to different parts of Shravasti district, interacted with the people to know about the prevailing situation and warned government officials against laxity of any kind.

Informing the district authority about his trip just an hour in advance, Akhilesh visited Econa tehsil headquarters, Gulaula block among others, had one-on-one interaction with the people, and inspected construction works of drains and cement concrete (CC) roads.

The Chief Minister pulled up government employees for their shortcomings and adopted tough postures towards senior officials, including district magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami, and promised the locals that their problems would be redressed soon. Talking to reporters, Akhilesh said laxity would not be tolerated at any cost and officials would be taken to task.

Expressing his displeasure with the media, he said they (the media) have no interest in raising the problems faced by people in other parts of the country.

"It is only Uttar Pradesh government which is being defamed," he said. Stressing that his surprise visits to districts would continue, the Chief Minister said if needed the departmental ministers would also undertake similar visits.

The visits come at a time when the state's ruling Samajwadi Party faced drubbing in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections. To a question, Akhilesh said funds would be allocated for the pending schemes in the upcoming budget session of the Vidhan Sabha from June 16.
