She is still remembered by many as the young Vinodhini of ‘Theerthadanam’, a poignant character penned by MT Vasudevan Nair in his iconic short story ‘Vanaprastham’. That was in the year 2001. Actress Monica, who made an impressive debut in Mollywood through the film is back with a bang. This time as the leading lady of the movie ‘916’ opposite Anoop Menon.
“Though ‘Therthadanam’ was my first movie as a heroine in Malayalam, not many know that I made an entry in the industry as a child artist through ‘Uncle Bun’. I was one of youngest of the three children whom Mohanlal took care of in the movie,” says Monica who cherishes her role in the movie ‘Theerthadanam’ and also the song sequence ‘Mooli mooli kaatinundoru kalikkurumbu..’ which won her accolades.
In the upcoming ‘916’, directed by M Mohanan, Monica says her character has different shades. "The movie is essentially a take on colliding human relations. I play a capricious medical college student in the first half. Later my character evolves as she goes through certain emotionally stirring experiences which gives her new insights about life,” explains the actress about her role in the movie.
She says she has high expectations from the film, as the director’s last two films, ‘Kadha Parayumbol’ and ‘Manikyakallu’ were hits.
Monica who has acted as a child artist in more than 40 films has come a long way. She was noticed in a big way with her film, ‘Azhaki’ where she played the young Nandita Das.
The actor who has also acted in an English movie ‘The Prayer in the Angel’and a Singhalese movie ‘Rosa Kele’ says, “I am particular about the scope of my character in every movie in which I act. I have always selected movies in which the heroine has much more to do than just to run along with the hero around the trees.”
