BANGALORE: Wine lovers and novices can now discover the extraordinary range of vast variety of wines, without leaving the city.Following the success of earlier wine festivals which were organised by private sponsors, this is the first time the government will be promoting the wine fest in cooperation with the Karnataka Wine Board (KWB).The three-day ‘International Wine Festival’ (IWF) will be starting from March 2 at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore. The IWF is being held in Bangalore for the third time and is expected to have around 20,000 footfalls.More than forty wineries, including 10 global wineries are expected to participate in the event.Besides, a host of machinery suppliers will also exhibit their latest offerings.“The IWF 2012 is a major event as the government is hosting it this time. With around 2,000 acres under grapevine cultivation in Karnataka, we are second to Maharashtra both in terms of acreage and production,” said K G Suresh Chandran, Managing Director of Karnataka Wine Board. The festival will also have wine tasting sessions aimed at encouraging wine consumption and will offer wineries a chance to interact directly with consumers. The Wine Board is organising the event to create awareness about grapes & wine amongst farmers, entrepreneurs & the general public and to provide Karnataka wineries a global exposure. The event will be a great platform for the farmer to have direct linkages with the wineries and other stakeholders.
