Karachi: Fifty Indian fishermen have been arrested for encroaching into Pakistani waters, an official said.

Maritime security agency officials arrested 50 Indian fishermen and took nine fishing-boats under control, Geo News reported on Friday.

Agency spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Shakeel Khan said: “Nine Indian fishing-boats entered several kilometers within Pakistani water limits. We signalled repeated warnings to them but in vain. We then held them captive.”

“It is difficult to differentiate the limits between Pakistan and India in sea therefore we mistakenly crossed Pakistan’s water limits. We regret our mistake and demand the government of Pakistan to take pity on us," the report quoted an Indian fisherman as saying.

They also urged the Indian Government to release detained Pakistani fishermen as a sign of goodwill.
