CHENNAI: Five police personnel, including an inspector, accused of raping four tribal women in Villupurum District last week, were suspended today, police said.They were suspended based on a report submitted by a judicial magistrate who inquired into a complaint alleging that the women were raped on November 22.Besides the Inspector, a Special Sub-Inspector, a head constable and two constables were placed under suspension, police said here tonight.In its November 26 complaint lodged with Villupuram District Superintendent of Police N Bhaskaran, a tribal forum alleged the four Irula tribal women were raped by the five policemen attached to Tirukovilur police station when they had gone there seeking the release of a relative detained in a theft case.The police personnel had taken the women to a nearby secluded area and sexually assaulted them, the complaint charged.
