46-year-old West Bengal Man, Trekking In Uttarakhand, Dies Of Heart Attack
On May 19, a group from West Bengal went trekking from Sankri to Kyarkoti-Harshil. It consisted of 11 trekkers, a leader and his daughter, a cook, a helper and others.

A 46-year-old man named Devabrat Babu, from Sambaya Palli, West Bengal tragically died due to respiratory issues while trekking in Uttarakhand. Devabrat, who was part of a trekking group of 10-11 members, had left for the Dhumdharkandi trek on May 17. He last communicated with his family via video conference on May 19, after which his phone was turned off and no further contact was made.

Reports indicate that Devabrat encountered breathing difficulties at the base camp en route to the trekking destination and succumbed to his illness on the mountain before he could be transported down for medical attention.

Upon receiving the news of his death, his family was left in profound grief. Devabrat was the sole earner for his family, which included his wife, two children, and an elderly mother. His untimely demise has left them devastated.

An officer from the Harshil police station reported that on May 19, a group from West Bengal went trekking from Sankri to Kyarkoti-Harshil. It consisted of 11 trekkers, a leader and his daughter, seven porters, a guide, a cook, and a helper. The team informed authorities that one of their members had died of a heart attack.

District Disaster Management Officer of Uttarkashi, Devendra Patwal, earlier stated over the phone that the Harshil police station had been informed about the incident. “Till now, the SDRF officials have failed to obtain any written permission for trekking from the team. Thus, we are yet to ascertain from where the team got permission to trek,” Patwal said. The district administration and Disaster Management Department have put the SDRF on alert.

Recently, the massive forest fires in the forests of Uttarakhand have shocked and worried travellers, trekkers and locals. According to reports, five people have died in the forest fires so far. Due to the forest fires, tourism in Uttarakhand is also affected, especially in the Kumaon region where the trekking season and mountaineering are in question from May 10.
