4 elephants stranded in Athagarh Island

ATHAGARH: Four elephants have been stranded  in Amangei island near Kandarpur village here after being caught in the turbulent Mahanadi in an attempt to cross the river from Damapada to Athagarh.  The herd was forced to abandon its journey midway following the release of water from the Hirakud dam into Mahanadi and a subsequent rise in water level.  Athagarh Divisional Forest  Officer Sudarshan Behera said the department will conduct operations to secure the elephants after flood water recedes.e
