KARUR: Four persons were killed and 20 injured, when a boiler at a dyeing unit exploded on Tuesday at Sellandipalayam here.According to sources, the incident occurred at the dyeing unit owned by M Loganathan (45) of Sellandipalayam. About 20 persons were on duty on Tuesday morning when one of the boilers suddenly exploded, causing damage to the structure and the trees nearby.Two workers Gandhi and Ram Deep died on the spot. Bhaskaran who had come to check the yarn died on way to the hospital. One more victim whose body parts lay scattered in an adjoining field was not identified.Twenty persons including factory owner and workers sustained injuries. All of them were admitted to the GH and private hospitals in Karur. Later, 12 of them were shifted to Coimbatore for intensive treatment. Collector V Shobana and SP P Nagarajan, visited the mishap site. The injured were visited in the hospital by former Union minister M Thambidurai and S Kamaraj MLA. It is said that an electrical snag in the boiler could have caused the explosion.CM condoles mishap, grants solatium Meanwhile, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday condoled the death of four persons in the blast and granted a solatium of `one lakh each to their families. She announced assistance of `25,000 to those with serious injuries and `10,000 to those with minor injuries. The Chief Minister has directed the district administration to provide best possible treatment to those suffered injuries.The Chief Minister also granted a solatium of `one lakh each to the two children - Viji and Deepa who drowned on December 4.
