Unidentified persons, mounted on bikes, snatched away $35,000 (Rs 17.5 Lakh) from a senior executive of a travel agency at Raj Bhavan road here on Wednesday. The culprits are said to be of an ‘attention diverting robber gang’.
According to the police, the incident happened when K Sravan Kumar (30) was riding his bike with $35,000, which he had withdrawn from a private bank branch, when the robbers diverted his attention and snatched away the bag which contained the money.
At around 12.30 pm, Sravan, a senior executive at a private travel agency in Secunderabad, came to Standard Chartered bank branch at Raj Bhavan road and withdrew $35,000 for some office purpose.
“While returning to the office, he suddenly felt irritation around his neck and stopped his bike. A passerby, who was also said to be one of gang member, told him that there were some stain marks on his shirt. Busy checking for the stain marks, Sravan put the cash bag on the fuel tank of the bike. Suddenly, the culprits came from behind and snatched the bag,” said K Sattaiah, detective inspector, Punjagutta. After making a vain bid to chase the robbers, he lodged a complaint at the Punjagutta police station.
