35 Canadian delegates to attend Emerging Kerala

As many as 35 delegates from Canada and  14 Canadian company representatives will participate in the ‘Emerging Kerala’ meet scheduled to be held in Kochi from September 12 to 14, said Russ Hiebert, Member of Parliament, Canada.

He was speaking to ‘City Express’ on the sidelines of the interactive session with Canadian Commonwealth Parliamentary Association organised jointly by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Kerala Management Association (KMA) in Kochi on Friday.

He said the delegation from Canada would visit Technopark and Infopark to explore the opportunities in the IT and ITES sector. “We  are eying opportunities in the engineering sector since huge talent is available in the state,” he said.

On the migration policy of the Canadian government, he said the country’s policy is primarily based on equipping the professionals even before they land in Canada.

“The total number of Canadian companies in India almost doubled during 2009-2011 and touched 500. We are expecting this number to reach 750 in two years. The total trade volume with India will touch $15 billion by 2015,” Hiebert said.

The Parliament members pointed out that they are exploring opportunities in pharmaceuticals, telecom, education and infrastructure sectors in India. Recently Canada has identified 13 priority countries for bilateral trade and India is one among them.

Canadian Senators Raynell Andrey Chuk, David Smith, Parliament members Russel Hiebert, Devinder Shory and Joe Daniel were present.

Sebastian Paul delivered the keynote address. KCCI chairman K N Marzook welcomed the gathering.
