According to Lokniti-CSDS, a notable 31 per cent of the farmers said that they were yet to decide on their choice of party.

New Delhi: With the crucial Lok Sabha elections just a month away, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo farmers as their support will play a very pivotal role in the polls.

As all political parties claim that their focus is on farmer-centric politics, Lokniti-CSDS finds out the views of farmers through a survey. The survey was conducted on 11,000 farmers across 18 states to know their preference on whom they wanted to see as the new Prime Minister of the nation which ranks second worldwide in farm output.

While 30 per cent of the surveyed farmers said that they would vote for Bharatiya Janata Party in the forthcoming polls, 17 per cent reposed their faith in Congress. However, a notable 31 per cent of the farmers said that they were yet to decide on their choice of party.

Here are the survey findings

Only 10 per cent of the farmers surveyed feel they are poor and that small farmers have benifitted from the government policies

47 per cent of the farmers surveyed felt that their overall condition was bad

85 per cent of farmers had heard of UPA's flagship programme, MNREGA. However, 51 per cent of them didn't get work under it

70 per cent of the farmers surveyed had not heard about the direct cash transfer scheme

Only 27 per cent of the farmers surveyed had heard about the Land Acquisition Law, but 57 per cent of them felt they will lose from it

76 per cent family members of farming community prefer to do some other work for their livlihood

Only 24 per cent youngsters surveyed are interested in farming

Aa many as 60 per cent farmers surveyed said they want their children to settle in cities

51 per cent of farmers surveyed do not have access to electricity for farming
