KOCHI: The Air Intelligence wing of the Income Tax on Sunday unearthed about 22 kg of gold brought from Mumbai suspected to be without proper documents, at the Cochin International Airport Ltd. According to sources, out of the total, 13.5 kg of gold was brought to Kochi by a person called Avatar Singh for a jewellery at Warriam Road. The gold was brought to Kochi by a private airline, which reached CIAL at 10.30 am. Avatar Singh was taken into custody and he is being interrogated by the officials for more information.In another incident, a person who came by the same flight also brought 8.5 kg of gold allegedly without proper documents. It was brought from Mumbai for a prominent jewellery shop in the city. “The officials have asked the jewellers to produce documents on Monday. Based on that it will be decided whether a fine should be imposed or not,” sources said.
