Acting tough, Delhi government has ordered two five star hotels Imperial and Eros to close their restaurants, kitchen and laundry units, for "failing" to comply with pollution control norms and asked the civic agencies to snap power and water supplies to them.
The punitive action against the two hotels are being taken as they failed to adhere to government's directive of implementing environment-friendly steps like water conservation and setting up of dedicated sewage treatment plant, officials of Delhi Environment department said.
In June last year, 32 five-star hotels had signed memorandum of understanding with Delhi government expressing their commitment to comply with the 'Green Hotel Guidelines' under which they were to take specific steps to protect the environment and reduce water and energy consumption.
When contacted, a senior official of Imperial Hotel said "installation of sewage treatment plant was delayed as the road outside the hotel was blocked because of the work by Delhi Metro. We will comply with Delhi government's directives and temporary arrangements for handling wastes have been put in place."
However, officials of Eros rpt Eros said they were not in a position to offer comment on the issue.
