VELLORE: Ten bootleggers including four women, were held at various raids conducted by a special team in Vellore on Wednesday. 433 litres of illicit liquor was seized from them.A team, formed for the prohibition of  illicit liquor in the district, conducted raids at various places in the district on Wednesday and nabbed 10 bootleggers; Venkat alias Raji (27) of Agravaram, Mahalingam (60) of Keezhmutukoor, Valli (50), Krishnaveni (63) of Banangulam, Ramu (40) of Soganur, Ganesan (50) of Vinayagapuram, Siva (39) of Sathuvachari, Kuppammal (32) of Kollakottai, Tirupathi (24) of Bosco Nagar and Samanthi (35) of Chinna Sathur. 10 Motorcycles Seized As many as 10 motorcycles were seized on Thursday and a total of `32,760 levied as fine by officials on the owners. Tiruvannamalai Regional Transport Officer, Swaminathan and Motor vehicle Inspector Karunanidhi were involved in a vehicle check in Tiruvannamalai town area, when they stopped some vehicles for enquiry.Further enquiry revealed that the two-wheelers were bought, registered in Puducherry and the road tax for the same were also paid. However, the vehicles are being used in Tamil Nadu, for which the road tax was not paid The officials also seized six two-wheelers for pasting other stickers and names on the number plate.Women Die of Burns Two women died of burns in separate incidents in Vellore, on Wednesday.  Valliammal (80) of Koyilur near Ambur got burnt when a chimney near her fell down and her saree caught fire. She was immediately taken to Vellore GH, where she died. Veppankuppam police have filed a case in this connection.Ammu (21) of Kurisilapattu near Tiruppattur was charred while cooking. An oil can near her fell down into the gas fire causing the accident. She was taken to Tiruppattur GH, where she died. Kurisilapattu police have registered a case.Road Roko on NHSIPCOT employees and residents of nearby villages near Ranipet staged a road roko demanding continuous power supply on Thursday at the EB junction road on the Chennai - Bangalore highway near Thiruvalam.During the protest, they held candles and raised slogans condemning the unannounced power cut and demanded continuous power supply in the area.Traffic at the NH was affected for over one and a half  hours. On information, Thiruvalam police rushed to the spot and pacified the people.
