What is Uber One?

Uber One is a paid membership program that offers users exclusive perks. It applies to both Uber and Uber Eats, so you can receive special discounts on rides, groceries, food deliveries, and pickup orders. Uber claims that members save around $27 per month on average (excluding the cost of membership). Since the program works across all of Uber’s platforms, you don’t need to download a separate app to access the benefits—you can use the same Uber One membership for both Uber and Uber Eats. Uber One is the replacement program for Uber Pass and Uber Eats Pass, which were discontinued at the end of 2021.

Uber One costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. The monthly membership auto-renews every month unless you cancel it at least 48 hours before your next billing date. For the annual membership, you pay the full amount upfront, and it auto-renews every year on your enrollment date (unless you cancel it). With an annual Uber One membership, you pay slightly less per month ($8.33) than the monthly membership, but you cannot get a refund for the year once your payment processes.

What are the benefits of Uber One?

5% off eligible rides and top-rated drivers. Uber is best known for helping you get a ride, but it can get quite expensive if you take multiple trips per week. With Uber One, members receive 5% off all eligible rides, including UberX, Black, and Comfort (plus, priority access to the best drivers on the platform). To be eligible for this discount, your ride must be at least $15 before taxes and fees. This offer doesn’t apply to shared rides or rides that are booked more than 30 minutes in advance.

Unlimited $0 delivery fee on eligible Uber Eats orders. One of the most annoying aspects of Uber Eats is having to pay a delivery fee for “small orders” under $25. This fee can cost up to $8 per order, but Uber One eliminates it entirely for members who spend $15 at participating restaurants and stores (and $35 at participating grocery stores). To check if your restaurant or store is an Uber One partner, open up the Uber Eats app and look underneath the name of the establishment for the Uber One logo—a gold-colored circle with the number 1 inside. Keep in mind that you still have to pay service fees, taxes, and tips for your order, which can make it significantly more expensive than buying directly from the store.

Up to 10% off eligible Uber Eats deliveries and pickup orders. Along with an unlimited $0 delivery fee, Uber One members also receive 10% off eligible orders from restaurants and non-grocery stores marked with the gold Uber One icon (and 5% off eligible orders from participating grocery stores). To qualify for this offer, you must place an order of at least $15 at participating restaurants and non-grocery stores (and $35 at participating grocery stores).

$5 Uber credit if your order arrives late. Known as the Uber One Promise, members receive $5 in Uber cash if the latest estimated delivery time is wrong for eligible food and grocery orders. You can check the latest estimated delivery time once you place your order and it’s confirmed, and it doesn’t change throughout the delivery process. For example, if the app predicts you’ll receive your order by 4:45 PM, you will get a $5 Uber credit if you receive it at 4:47 PM. You can use the $5 Uber credit on future rides, food deliveries, groceries, and pickup orders.

Is Uber One worth it?

Uber One is worth it if you spend over $9.99 in delivery fees on Uber Eats each month. If you order food often (and spend over $15 per purchase), Uber One can be a great way to save money on food deliveries. Depending on your location, some delivery fees can be as high as $8 per order. So, you’re likely to break even with a monthly membership if you order food 2-3 times a month. Before committing to Uber One, think about how often you use other apps for the same services. If you also use Doordash, GrubHub, or Instacart for food deliveries, you might not reach the minimum amount per month to get your investment back.

For rides, Uber One is worth it if you spend at least $200 on Uber every month. If you order rides multiple times a month (and spend over $15 per purchase), Uber One may help lower your monthly costs. Since it provides 5% off eligible rides, you would have to spend $200 to break even with a monthly membership, or $167 per month to break even with an annual membership. Before committing to Uber One, review your previous transactions to see how much you typically spend on rides. For instance, if your trips are usually less than $15, the 5% discount on rides wouldn’t qualify for most of your purchases, and you may end up wasting money on the membership.

Is there a free trial for Uber One?

Yes, new members are eligible for a free 30-day trial of Uber One. You still have to input your payment information to start your free trial, but you can cancel it at any time. If you decide to cancel your membership during the trial period, you lose all of your benefits immediately.

How do you sign up for Uber One?

Sign in to your account on the Uber or Uber Eats app. Use your email address and password to log in to your account, then hit the ‘Account’ button in the bottom left corner of the screen. You can also sign up for Uber One on their website by logging in to your account and following the instructions online.

Click on the ‘Uber One’ button. It should be located towards the top of your screen, underneath the ‘Help,’ ‘Wallet,’ and ‘Trips' buttons.

Hit the ‘Join Uber One’ button. After clicking on the button, select the membership option you want (monthly or annual), then follow the instructions on the screen to start your subscription.

How do I cancel Uber One?

Tap ‘Account’ in the Uber or Uber Eats app. It should be in the lower right corner of your screen.

Select ‘Uber One.’ On the Uber app, this button will be located underneath the ‘Messages’ button. For Uber Eats, it will be located underneath ‘Business Preferences.’

Hit ‘Manage Membership.’ This button is at the bottom of your screen. Once you tap it, you will be able to see your billing information (including the next billing date and the amount you’ll be charged).

Click ‘End Membership.’ Once you click this button at the bottom of your screen, choose one of the 4 cancellation reasons, then click the ‘Confirm’ button to terminate your Uber One membership. You can cancel Uber One at any time, but make sure to do so at least 48 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged.

How to Get the Most Out of Uber One

Check the ‘Deals’ page on Uber Eats for the best offers in your area. Uber Eats always has exclusive deals for local restaurants, including coupons and BOGO offers. To see which deals are available near you, click on the ‘Browse’ button at the bottom of the Uber Eats app, then hit the ‘Latest Deals’ button underneath ‘Fast Food.’ From there, you’ll see all the current promotions in a green bubble at the top left corner of each restaurant.

Request an Uber outside of peak hours to avoid paying extra. If a bunch of people request an Uber in your area around the same time, your ride might cost more than usual. This temporary “surge” in pricing is common on weekends, or anytime there’s a big event or festival. Consider planning your trip outside of these times to get the best deal on your ride. If you can’t schedule your trip around peak hours (and you’re in the middle of a price spike), move your pick-up area a few blocks over to see if it changes the cost of your ride. You may need a walk a little bit outside of your original location, but you can instantly save $10-15.

Book a ride with UberX Share to save up to 20% off your total fare. If you’re not in a rush to get somewhere, consider using the UberX Share feature to share a ride with a user headed in the same direction. According to Uber, it doesn’t add more than 8 minutes to your ride, and you can save up to 20% on your ride if you’re matched with a co-rider. Keep in mind that you can only request one seat on UberX Share. If you’re with friends, book an UberX or UberXL.
