Machine Washing a Squishmallow
Place your Squishmallow in a mesh bag or zippered pillowcase. This will keep your plush from snagging on any parts of the machine during the washing process. Put it in a delicate clothes mesh bag and toss it in the washer. Squishmallow manufacturers do not recommend washing their products in a washing machine. Still, people do it anyway for convenience and have had success.
Toss your bagged Squishmallow in the machine with like items. Consider tossing a few blankets, towels, or sheets in the machine when you’re washing a plush. This way, everything will get washed, and your Squishmallow won’t be flattened from the cycle.
Wash your Squishmallow in a cool, gentle cycle with low-sudsing detergent. Avoid warm and hot water at all times. Squishmallows don’t do well with heat, as their fabric can easily melt at high temperatures. Low-sudsing detergents create less bubbles in your machine, and are often labeled as HE detergents. Stay away from fabric softeners when washing your plush as they can distort the soft, squishable fabric. Use one tablespoon of laundry detergent and distilled white vinegar for the rinse cycle to deodorize and remove any detergent residue.
Let your Squishmallow air dry. To avoid melting the inside and outside of your plush, the Squishmallow company warns against using a dryer, hairdryer, or other heat appliances. Opt for leaving your Squishmallow in a cool, dry or sunny place to dry naturally. Let it air dry. Use clothespins to hang your plush on a drying line. Simply clip it up by the ears, tentacles, or fronds, depending on what Squishmallow you have.
Spot Cleaning a Squishmallow
Blot the dirty spot with a damp cloth. If you’ve spilled something on your Squishmallow, don’t worry! Simply wet a rag, towel, or sponge, wring out the excess water, and blot the stain. When it comes to spot cleaning a plush, always avoid rubbing a stain as this can spread the stain and cause damage to your Squishmallow’s soft fabric.
Wipe your Squishmallow with a wet wipe for a quick wash. When your plushie friend needs a quick wipe down, opt for using a baby or disinfectant wipe. This is a great solution for when your Squishmallow is a little dirty but doesn’t have any stains.
Use a stain remover pen on stubborn stains. Gently wipe the stain with a damp cloth or wet wipe to remove any excess debris or dirt. Then, wipe the stain remover pen over the stain. Let the stain dry and wipe again with a damp cloth or wet wipe. Stain remover pens work best on food and drink stains, but some pens are formulated to treat ink and bloodstains. The faster you treat a stain, the faster it’ll disappear!
