The Indian national women’s hockey team clinched the gold medal at the Asian Champions Trophy in Ranchi on Sunday with a thumping win over losing finalists Japan.
Following the title win, the honourable Prime Minister of the nation, Shri. Narendra Modi expressed his delight with the unit’s performance and triumph at the continental event on home soil.

Modi took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to congratulate the women’s side that had made the nation proud.
The Premier’s post read, “India’s Nari Shakti excels yet again! Congratulations to our stellar hockey team for clinching the prestigious Gold at the Asian Champions Trophy 2023!”
“Their outstanding display of skill, unwavering passion and relentless determination has indeed filled our hearts with pride. Well done to the champions for elevating the nation’s glory on the international stage,” the post added.

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also sent his wishes to the title winning team with an update that read, “With a sparkling 4-0 win in the #AsianChampionsTrophy, our women’s hockey team has brought Diwali early this year. Congratulations to the champions!”

The women’s unit romped to a four-goal win over Japan in the summit clash and polished off an incredible campaign in which they went unbeaten en route to getting their hands on the yellow metal.
Sangita Kumari, Neha, Lalremsiami and veteran Vandhana Katariya all netted in the championship clash to help India win the title.
Following the win, Hockey India announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh each for all the players and Rs 1.5 lakh each for all the support staff of the winning team.
The Indian women brushed aside the South Korean challenge in the semifinals with a 2-0 win to follow their 5-0 rout in the final group match over the same opponents.
