Brazil face Colombian challenge
Four teams have made it to the quarter-finals - Brazil will play Colombia and Netherlands will take on Costa Rica.
Based on their performances in the pre-quarters Brazil has a tough task on their hands. In James Rodriguez, Colombia has one of the stars of the world cup. His stunning volley has already been saved by broadcasters for the best goals highlight reel.
In beating a Suarez-less Uruguay Jose Pekerman's team have emerged from the shadows of their own talisman- Radamel Falcao.
After the striker was ruled out of Brazil 2014, many believed that Colombia would struggle to make an impact, but James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado's form would be giving Luiz Felipe Scolari some sleepless nights.
Without a quality striker up front, Brazil struggled against Chile and Colombia will be another tough game.
Netherlands look good to reach semis
Costa Rica managed to struggle past Greece to reach their first ever World Cup quarter-finals. Having emerged from a group boasting former champions Italy, England and Uruguay- Costa Rica are having a dream run. Down to ten men and after Sokratis Papastathopoulos equalised in the 91st minute, it seemed that Jorge Luis Pinto would taking his team back home, but they held on.
In fact they continued to fashion chances in the extra time, and when it came to penalties they did something that the likes of Brazil, and more famously England, fight difficult to do.
They scored all 5 of their penalties.
Netherlands meanwhile are looking like a tough team to beat. They managed to turn around a one goal deficit in the last five minutes and dump out Mexico. In Louis Van Gaal they have a shrewd manager who has faced a raging storm in Holland over his 'defensive' tactics. The much favoured 'total football' played by Cruyff has been ignored for a more stoic counter-attacking style, that has come to be known as van Gaal's 'power football'. It has got them the points. And with Arjen Robben, Van Persie and Sneijder in form, Holland has scored the most goals this tournament.
It's the proverbial David-Goliath match up. Last world cup's finalists would be hoping to see out the challenge but considering their dream run, it would be unwise to rule out the Los Ticos.
