London: Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he was "aggressive" towards referee Chris Foy in the aftermath of a tempestuous derby defeat away to QPR on Sunday.
The Portuguese admitted he confronted the match official at the end of the controversial 1-0 defeat in which he claimed Chelsea, who conceded a "soft" penalty and had two men sent off, should have had three spot-kicks of their own.
"I was aggressive to him," Villas-Boas told reporters. "I don’t care if he was okay about it."
"Everybody can have a bad day but this was not a bad day for us. This was a good day. It was a bad day for the referee."
"I cannot understand the misjudgements by the referee. The fourth official kept calm towards the emotions coming from the bench, but the other three were overly influenced by the emotions of the crowd for a game like this. Decision by decision, they got wrong. They were unable to make good decisions."
"I am very disappointed with Chris Foy's performance because I don’t think he had the courage to take decisions through."
"Emotionally our players were in control because even with nine players we kept our emotions at a good level, but I don’t think Chris and his team - apart from the fourth official, who was excellent - were able to manage an emotional game like this one."
"He conceded to the crowd and committed tremendous mistakes, which influenced our result."
"He was card-happy towards our team," ranted the Portuguese. "I am not happy with the difference of treatment, nothing else. On a normal day with good judgement by the referee, we win the game."
Villas-Boas highlighted the first-half penalty conceded by David Luiz, the red card given to Jose Bosingwa and the three spot-kicks Chelsea could have had in the second half as evidence of the misjudgements of Foy and his colleagues.
Villas-Boas also claimed that Chelsea have been the victims of refereeing incompetence too often in their eight Premier League games this season.
"This was not the first time it has happened to us this season," he said. "I don’t want to believe there is a pattern in the referees we are getting because it is the third time in a row the referee has directly influenced our result and we are not happy with this."
"We cannot take it like this, we are title contenders, like everyone else up there, and this is too much in a short time. At the moment it is happening and it’s not fair."
When pressed to name the two other matches in which Chelsea have suffered from refereeing misfortune, he named the Manchester United and Stoke City games, the only other fixtures in which his team have failed to take all three points.
Meanwhile, the Chelsea manager had nothing but praise for the performances of his players in trying circumstances.
He said: "I have to praise the effort of my players because it was amazing. I think we reduced QPR's opportunities to one penalty and a chance in the 78th minute and bearing in mind that we played for over 45 minutes with only nine men makes the performance even more courageous."
"It highlights the strength of commitment they have for this club. These are the important signs we take from today. We were superior all game. QPR had one penalty and one cross. The rest they had nothing."
"In the dressing room there is a sense of respect towards everybody. With a little bit of luck, we could have come out with a result."
