Madrid eye Wenger appointment: report
Wenger is being targeted by Madrid as Jose Mourinho is likely to leave at the end of the season.

Madrid: Arsene Wenger is on a two-man shortlist to replace Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid in the summer, according to the Daily Mail. Wenger and Germany manager Joachim Low are the managers being targeted for the role with Mourinho expected to depart the Santiago Beranbeu at the end of the season.

The Portuguese boss was booed during the 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao last weekend, prompting the ex-Chelsea coach to suggest on Tuesday that "I don't know if I'll be at Real Madrid next season."

Recent reports have suggested that the 48-year-old's relationship with his squad is gradually deteriorating, with apparent bust-ups with Sergio Ramos and captain Iker Casillas taking place.

Madrid currently lead La Liga by five points but their inability to defeat Barcelona has caused problems, with los Blancos travelling to Camp Nou on Wednesday looking to overcome a 2-1 first-leg deficit in the Copa del Rey last-eight, having beaten the Catalans in the final of the competition last year.

Wenger has been experiencing similar problems in north London, with the Gunners fanbase growing increasingly tired of the club's poor performances and the Frenchman's reluctance to invest more in his squad.

With Arsenal increasingly unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next year, the 62-year-old may be tempted by a new challenge in La Liga, having been courted by the Spanish giants for a number of years.
