Wales: Thierry Henry became embroiled in an argument with a furious fan after Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat at Swansea on Sunday.
Henry appeared to invite the angry supporter down onto the pitch in a provocative manner at the end of a thrilling encounter which saw the Welsh hosts come from behind to outplay their more illustrious opponents and secure a shock victory.
Robin van Persie put the Gunners ahead early with his 18th goal of the season, but Swansea outplayed and outpassed what has long been one of England's most attractive teams.
Scott Sinclair struck a 16th-minute penalty before Nathan Dyer made it 2-1 to the Swans 12 minutes after half-time. Theo Walcott equalized in the 69th but Arsenal conceded less than a minute later as Danny Graham took advantage of some slack defending to hit a 70th-minute winner.
Arsenal's sixth defeat from 11 away matches allowed sixth-placed Newcastle to draw level on 36 points with a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers. Arsenal are four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the final Champions League berth.
Thierry Henry, who made a dream return to the club, scoring a winner against Leeds United in the FA Cup in his first match, came on as a substitute for Arsenal but could do little.
The Frenchman’s fairytale return to Arsenal on loan was tainted slightly by giving the ball away in the build-up to Graham’s 70th-minute winner, and he then appeared to be incensed by a comment from a fan as he went over to applaud the visiting supporters.
A club spokesperson afterwards claimed Henry had only said the words: “No matter what, you should support your team”. Television pictures, however, seem to show him shouting and gesturing angrily towards the travelling Arsenal faithful.
The Sun reported that an angry fan was heard shouting after Arsenal's defeat: "Where is the heart and the character and the fight?"
Henry shouted back: "Get behind the team and support the players and don't be negative."
The 34-year-old returned to Arsenal on a two-month loan deal from MLS side New York Red Bulls.
